As you walk the streets of Old Town you might find a few new pieces of furniture along streets-cape. Not only are these new permanent public benches, they are enhanced by local poets who have dedicated their words to our community. You will find a total of six benches that have been placed throughout the community. Come enjoy the beautiful poems that were inspired by our community.

Mark your calendars! On Wednesday, February 6, 2013 OTCA will be hosting a Winter Mixer and Annual Meeting from 6:30pm to 8:30pm. This will be an opportunity to celebrate a year of successes in Old Town and the very talented and dedicated volunteers, sponsors, members and community partners that allowed that to happen.
The mixer will be held at Old Town Marquee, 319 E. Grand River Ave, Lansing, MI 48906. For more information on this location, visit iloveoldtown.org.

We are hosting our 6th annual Scrooge Scramble 5K Run/Walk on the streets of Old Town and Lansing River Trail to benefit Dickens Village on Dec. 1, 2012 at 10 a.m.
The race will begin on Turner St. and will continue through Old Town and the Lansing River Trail in an accurate 5K. Each participant will receive a Bah-Humbug Scrooge cap and the first 100 registrants will receive a piece of jingle bell flair. The overall winner will receive an OTCA festival package and the top 3 places in each age group will receive medals.

This holiday season Old Town will transform into a Victorian scene for the 6th annual Dickens Village. On Dec. 1, from noon to 5 p.m., family friendly activities will be taking place throughout Old Town.

We are now preparing for Compassionate Feast, a program dedicated to providing families in need with all of the ingredients necessary to make a complete Thanksgiving dinner and happy memories of their own. Compassionate Feast will take place on Monday, November 19st at the Red Cedar Friends Quaker Meeting House, located at 1400 Turner Street.

The Poetry Bench Contest is a public seating initiative that will place poetry inspired by the spirit of Old Town on new public benches throughout the historic downtown. During the month of August the public had an opportunity to submit their best poetry and OTCA received more than 50 submissions. The OTCA Design Committee narrowed the field down to 12 and invited the community to cast their vote for their favorite poems. The final 12 were narrowed down to these 6 winners:

The Old Town Commercial Association’s seventh annual Old Town Oktoberfest held Friday, Oct. 5 & Saturday, Oct. 6, was a great success due to the phenomenal support from visitors, volunteers and sponsors. Despite the cold weather, the festival attracted many new faces to the area over the course of the weekend to celebrate the season and support Old Town.
