On Friday, November 1, 2013, the Greater Lansing area will be once again rolling out the red carpet for First Fridays. First Fridays is a unique and fun event that brings all businesses and residents of Greater Lansing together for a fun time out on the town.

Halloween is just around the corner and Pruess Pets is kicking off the holiday with the sixth annual Tarantula Night. Michigan’s arachno- event of the year is back on Oct. 27 from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. This free event will host tarantulas and tarantula enthusiast from around the greater Lansing area, book signings, arachnid stories, prizes, and games.

 On Friday, October 4, 2013, the Greater Lansing area will again be hosting its one of a kind specials for First Fridays. The First Fridays event is unique in that it brings people of all ages together for a fun night out with specials from a wide range of participating businesses.

An event honoring the memory of Robert P. Busby, “The Mayor of Old Town”   THE OCCASION: Artist Maureen Bergquist Gray has completed a sculpture memorializing Busby, a dear friend to her and countless artists, musicians, business folks, the LGBT community, politicians, entrepreneurs, the disenfranchised and the disadvantaged.  He was murdered in 2007 but his legacy lives on in Old Town, a neighborhood that he helped transform into the thriving, funky destination it is today.

Students execute kickstarter project in preparation of launching new program, Social Impact Consulting On Friday, Aug. 23, the Old Town Commercial Association (OTCA) welcomed  51 first-year, full-time Michigan State University MBA program students. These students  contributed 150 collective services hours by executing community clean-up projects throughout the district.

The Old Town Commercial Association is excited to welcome another new business to the neighborhood! On May 3, the Old Town General Store, located next to Preuss Pets at 408 E. Grand River, officially opened its doors to the public. Store owner Maria Van Atta said with the start of this new business, she hopes to fill a void in Old Town, which currently has no grocery store. Van Atta said she chose to open her store in Old Town because it’s where she grew up, and she fell in love with this particular building because of its appealing aesthetics.

We are excited to announce our entertainment lineup for Festival of the Moon and Sun, which will be held Friday, June 21st and Saturday, June 22nd 2013 at Lot 56 in Old Town. Festival of the Moon will feature three bands this year: Billiards Music, Joe Hertler & The Rainbow Seekers and our headliner Langhorne Slim. Read below for the bios from each band’s website.

Every morning when Elizabeth Hoelscher walks into her office at Big Brothers Big Sisters Capital Region, she knows the work she does will be life changing.  “Every day I'm at work, I know that day has meaning,” she said. “I see the kids in our program at different events and activities and love knowing that I've helped have a positive impact on their life.” Hoelscher currently acts as the communication and events coordinator at Big Brothers Big Sisters, which is the nation's largest youth mentoring organization.
