Scrapfest

New this year, Scrapfest is a competition where artists have one hour to find recycled scrap materials from Friedland Industries and one week to create a masterpiece. The sculptures will be displayed, judged, and auctioned off at Festival of the Moon and Sun on June 26 and 27.

As the world looks towards “green” solutions, Old Town is joining the movement by utilizing recycled products while still maintaining its artistic character. Friedland Industries joins Scrapfest as the recycled materials provider. Located at the corner of Maple and Center streets, the company has been serving Lansing for more than 120 years.

Scrapfest will be holding its kick-off breakfast at the Creole Gallery for artists and sponsors to discuss rules then head to Friedland Industries to gather as much recycled scrap as they can. Finished pieces have to be 10 by 10 feet, less than 500 pounds and completed in time to be displayed at Festival of the Moon and judged and auctioned off at Festival of the Sun.

Organizations have the opportunity to sponsor participating teams as well as first, second, and third place prizes. For more information on how to become a sponsor or a participating artist call the OTCA office at 517-485-4283 or visit http://www.iloveoldtown.org.
