On September 12, the OTCA was ecstatic to announce that Old Town won the $50,000 Ikea Small Business Big Dreams Makeover contest! Old Town beat out more than 50 other Main Street areas across the nation to win the Grand Prize. Again, thank you to all who voted and helped spread the word about the contest.
Ikea is sending their 10 best designers from across the country to Old Town in mid-November for design consultations with the 10 winning business. The transformations are scheduled for January 2008. Watch for the makeovers at Portable Feast, Pablo’s, Vernadine’s, Preuss Pets classroom space, Gone 2 the Dogs, The Headroom Salon, Elderly Instruments, Sierra Club, Such Video and the OTCA office.
After the makeovers, Old Town will be featured across the country in the business section of Ikea stores and on the ikea.com/business site. Because many Old Town businesses used Ikea furiture to equip their space, Ikea invites any Old Town businesses to submit before and after photos of their own Ikea makeovers to include in the promotions as well.
Ikea Canton also invited Old Town to an evening seminar for small business owners entitled “Learned Leadership Lessons.” The Ikea U.S. President, Pernille Lopez will be the keynote speaker and make a small presentation congratulating Old Town on the victory. The event is October 15 from 5-8p.m. and cost $25. Ikea plans to provide a bus for transportation to Cantonfor OTCA members; however we have no finalized details at this time. If this is something you would be interested in attending, call the OTCA office at 485.4283.
