Spring is finally here, summer is just a short couple months away and planning is well under way for the OTCA’s Festival of the Moon and Festival of the Sun, held Friday, June 20 from 6-11p.m. and Saturday, June 21 from 2-10p.m., respectively. As the festivals continue to grow in popularity, we are sure that this year’s events will be the best yet.
We are excited to announce that we are expanding Festival of the Sun this year to include more food and drink vendors as well as an entertainment stage in Burchard Park. Food vendors will be located near the stage, giving patrons the opportunity to enjoy the sounds of rockin’ beats while tasting scrumptious samples from Lansing area food vendors. Festival information and updates can be found by visiting the festival website at http://www.festivalofthesun.com.
Also new to Festival of the Sun is the Kids’ Corner sponsored by Impression 5 Science Center. Staff from Impression 5 will entertain the little ones by providing fun and educational craft activities from 2-6p.m. Kids under 12 also receive free admission to the Festival of the Sun.
This year you can enjoy a private party at Festival of the Sun and Festival of the Moon. These sponsorships are excellent for client or employee appreciation gifts or to ensure seating for a group. For $500, the private party package includes 8 entrance tickets, 8 commemorative glasses, 160 food and drink tickets, reserved table and seating under the VIP tent and access to both the VIP restroom and the VIP entrance. The private parties are going fast, so be sure to reserve yours as soon as possible!
Tickets for the festivals will be available in the beginning of June. Festival of the Moon tickets are $10 each and Festival of the Sun tickets are $17 in advance or $20 at the door. Patrons can purchase a combined pass, giving them access to both Festival of the Moon and Festival of the Sun for $25.
Festival of the Moon and Festival of the Sun are the Old Town Commercial Association’s primary fundraising events. These festivals allow the OTCA to continue its mission of revitalization through community improvements and development. Join us for another season of the Old Town Farmers Market! The season begins this month and runs through October.
We had such success with the market last year that we are expanding the market to twice monthly. Markets will be every first Sunday, in conjunction with the first Sunday Gallery walk, and third Fridays of the month from Noon-6p.m. in the lot on the corner of Grand River Ave. and Turner St.
Stop by the first market on May 5 and stock up on plants for your garden or flowers your Mom on Mother’s Day. Each market will be stocked with plants, flowers and fresh produce and other food items. You can also enjoy live music by local acoustic musician and demonstrations by some of the vendors.
Farmers markets have been growing in popularity over the last few years because they are a great way to keep money in the local economy and are a source of beautiful plants and only the freshest food items. By shopping at the Old Town Farmers Market, you will not only be enjoying a great afternoon outside, but you will be supporting local farmers. And unlike shopping in grocery stores, which must wait for their food to be shipped, these farmers provide the freshest products you can find, because everything is locally grown.
