Old Town’s Dickens Village

During the first weekend of December the streets of Old Town will be filled with thousands of residents, business owners, and visitors enjoying the 3rd Annual Old Town Dickens Village. This celebration serves as an opportunity to bring patrons to Old Town to appreciate all it has to offer at the merriest time of the year.

Old Town Dickens Village is a free, family-friendly, all-welcoming event to kick off the holiday season in Old Town. Participants will be treated to music, interactions with characters from Dickens’ A Christmas Carol, horse and carriage rides, puppet shows, arts and crafts, holiday craft markets, art show openings and more.

This is only the third year, but Dickens Village is still focused on bringing people to Old Town to experience all we have to offer, while keeping the event free for patrons. We invite you to be a part of this exciting holiday event. In order to continue our mission to revitalize and renovate the Old Town District, and to hold Dickens Village each year, the OTCA relies on charitable donations of businesses, non-profit organizations, residents, and other charitable citizens.

Horse Drawn Carriage Rides starting at Lot 56 from 12-5pm
Greens Market at 1220 Turner St. 12-5pm
Christmas Tree Sales at Mustang 1213 Turner St. 12-5 pm
Scrooge’s Parade starting at Turner Mini Park 1& 4pm
Puppet Show; “Marry Christmas Splat the Cat” at Creole Gallery 3pm, 3:30pm, 4pm, 4:30pm,
Window Wonderland at various businesses
Christmas Carolers at Turner Mini Park at various times throughout the days
Loving your Leftovers:Cooking Demonstration at Dreammakers Kitchen and Bath 1& 3pm
Holiday Hunt at Preuss Pets 4pm

Arts and Crafts Bazaar at North Presbyterian Church 12-5pm
High Tea at Turner Dodge House 3pm
Ice Carving in front of the Old Town Commercial Association Office 12-5pm
Photos with Santa at Girls Scouts Heart of Michigan 12-5pm

Currier & Ives Jazz Brunch at Perspective 2 Studio 11-3pm
Family Holiday Photos at Perspective 2 Studio 12-5pm
Holidays with Headroom at Headroom Salon 12-5pm

LIVE MUSIC

Thursday, December 3rd, 7:30-9pm
MSU Vocal Jazz Ensemble Performance at Perspective2! Old Town will be filled with the sweet sounds of jazz when Michigan State University’s renowned Vocal Jazz Ensemble makes their annual stop in Old Town. The Jazz Ensemble will perform a wide variety of songs from Swingin’ Jazz Standards to Ngiculela-Es Una Historia. They will also feature music by Roberta Flack, Paul Simon and festive Holiday music. Join them for some tight harmony and stompin’ swingin’ music.
Cost: $15 per person and $12 per student.

Proceeds go to the MSU Joy Vallier fund for Vocal Jazz.

The Mid-Michigan Environmental Action Council Hosts its 3rd Annual Benefit at P2:
Swing into December - Social & Swing Dance Party!
Featuring “Hot Club of Lansing”
Saturday, Dec. 5, 2009, 7-11pm at Perspective2, in Old Town.
“SWING INTO DECEMBER Benefit” at Perspective 2, in Old Town Lansing. Join us for wine, cheese, swing dance lessons, and live music from “Hot Club of Lansing”. The floor will be open for dancing under the stars if you so desire. A terrific way to enjoy live, local music and enjoy great company, while raising funds for local environmental protection. 
Wine and cheese reception from 7-8pm
Dance instruction and social hour from 8-9pm
Hot Club of Lansing and open dance from 9:00-11:00pm
$20 for one (includes drink ticket) or $35 for two (includes 2 drink tickets)

Michigan Jazz Network Hosts:
Currier & Ives Jazz Brunch at Perspective2 during the annual Dickens Village event in Old Town. Guests will be transported back in time with a traditional brunch complimented by beautiful candlelit tables and Jazz by Arlene McDaniel. This family friendly event welcomes you to experience days of old infused with the arts.
Cost: $40 adult, $15 children, under 2 Free

Dog Talent Show at Perspective2 with all proceeds going to Friends of Greater Lansing Dog Parks! Help us make improvements to the Soldan Dog Park in Lansing! Talent Categories include: Best Trick, Best Costume/Outfit, Funniest Trick, Best Smile, Best Doggy Dance, Longest Ears, Best Wag, Owner/Dog Look Alike, Loudest Bark and More.  $5 donation at the door & $2 for each category entered.

LIVE MUSIC EVENT

Michigan Jazz Network and Perspective2 Host:
The Sailors/DeLancey Jazz Orchestra at Persective2. This wonderful 17 piece, Jazz Orchestra was founded by trumpeter/composer Michael Sailors and double bassist/composer George DeLancey. Comprised of some of the finest musicians in the Michigan area, the S.D.J.O. is the only Jazz orchestra in Michigan that exclusively performs original music, composed by Sailors and other members of the band.
In keeping with the traditions of the great big bands of year’s past, the S.D.J.O. combines exceptional musicianship with exciting and adventurous compositions. The result is an exciting new band, with its own unique sound.
