Volunteer
Old Town relies on a team of wonderful volunteers to help continue the revitalization process of Lansing’s historic commercial district. Hundreds of volunteers are needed each year to help the OTCA continue its mission of historic preservation, community beautification and economic development.
There are many ways in which you, as a volunteer, can donate your time and energy to Old Town. Below are several ideas, but the volunteer opportunities are limited only by your imagination.
Help plan, coordinate and work the many special events
We always need volunteers to work special events in Old Town. The OTCA hosts three large festivals and many smaller events throughout the year. Volunteers are needed at the events as well as in the planning process.
Continue to gather historical information on Old Town
Old Town’s history is an important aspect of its current character. We are always gathering information on Old Town’s rich history. If you have any historical information or would like to investigate the history of Old Town, we would love to work with you.
Beautify and maintain Old Town
Help create and preserve a pleasant atmosphere in Old Town through events such as spring plantings and neighborhood clean-ups.
Become a member of an OTCA committee
The OTCA has four committees which meet on a monthly basis and work on various projects in Old Town.
Promotion Committee works to promote the Old Town area. Projects include festivals, events and marketing campaigns.
Design Committee works on the area’s aesthetics. Projects include spring plantings and clean-ups, holiday decorations and facade grant distribution.
Economic Restructuring Committee works on business recruitment and retention. Projects include a Wake Up Old Town! networking meetings, ribbon cuttings for new businesses and a business assistance team.
Organization Committee works to ensure we are fulfilling our mission. Projects include volunteer recruitment, Old Town Farmer’s Markets and Old Town Dickens Village.
