Communications Director
Old Town Commercial Association (OTCA)
Part-Time | 25–30 Hours Per Week | $25.00 Per Hour | Lansing, Michigan
Position Summary
The Old Town Commercial Association (OTCA) is seeking an organized, creative, and dependable Event, Administrative & Marketing Coordinator to support OTCA events, programs, communications, and day-to-day operations.
Working closely with the Executive Director, this position will focus primarily on event planning and administration, vendor and volunteer coordination, marketing and social media, and organizational support.
This is an ideal position for someone who enjoys variety, can keep multiple projects moving at once, and wants to play a hands-on role in promoting Old Town and producing some of Lansing's most unique community events.
Primary Responsibilities
Event Planning & Administration
Assist with planning and coordination of OTCA festivals, events, merchant promotions, and community activities.
Maintain event timelines, checklists, applications, budgets, and planning documents.
Coordinate vendor and artist applications, registrations, payments, and communications.
Assist with City of Lansing permits, street closures, and other event requirements.
Coordinate event supplies, rentals, signage, maps, layouts, and logistical needs.
Recruit, schedule, and communicate with event volunteers.
Assist with sponsorship recruitment, tracking, communications, and fulfillment.
Coordinate with contractors, community partners, businesses, and City departments.
Prepare vendor packets, volunteer instructions, signage, and event-day materials.
Provide on-site support during events, including setup, operations, and teardown.
Maintain post-event records and participation data to help improve future events.
Social Media & Marketing
Assist with management of OTCA and Old Town social media channels.
Create engaging content highlighting Old Town businesses, events, programs, and district happenings.
Develop social media graphics, event promotions, flyers, posters, signage, and other marketing materials.
Help create and maintain social media and marketing calendars.
Capture and organize photos and short-form video content from businesses, events, and activities throughout the district.
Assist with email newsletters, website updates, and digital communications.
Gather information from Old Town businesses for promotions, openings, sales, events, and district-wide campaigns.
Maintain consistent Old Town and OTCA branding across communications.
Assist with event marketing campaigns, including pre-event promotion, event-day content, and post-event recaps.
Track basic social media and marketing performance to identify successful content and campaigns.
Desired Qualifications
The ideal candidate will be:
Highly organized with strong attention to detail.
Creative and comfortable developing engaging social media content.
A strong written and verbal communicator.
Comfortable managing multiple projects and deadlines.
Comfortable communicating with businesses, vendors, volunteers, sponsors, City staff, and the public.
Able to work independently while collaborating closely with the Executive Director.
Proficient with Google Workspace or Microsoft Office.
Comfortable using social media platforms including Facebook and Instagram.
Familiar with Canva or similar design tools.
Comfortable learning CRM, email marketing, website, volunteer management, and event registration platforms.
Flexible and willing to jump between office work, creative projects, and hands-on event responsibilities.
Previous experience with event planning, social media, marketing, nonprofit administration, hospitality, festivals, or community organizations is helpful but not required.
