Hello friends!

It's shaping up to be a beautiful spring season here in Old Town and everyone here is gearing up for the warmer weather ahead. I know I can't contain my excitement seeing patios with their furniture out, the pastels and florals in window displays, and the blooming trees up and down our streets!

The transition from March to April saw many awesome events around the district, including an egg hunt for dogs hosted by Preuss Pets, tons of great musical acts at UrbanBeat, and even our annual Brrs, Beards, & Brews: A Lumberjack Festival. There's always something happening in Old Town and this spring is sure to be full of great events and activities.

One thing we're very excited to bring back this year is our monthly Wake Up Old Town events. Wake Up Old Town is a networking event held in various locations around Old Town that is welcoming of not just neighbors here in the district, but anyone in the Lansing area (or beyond!) interested in seeing some of our awesome spaces and meeting our incredible residents, business owners and employees, and volunteers. This year, Wake Up Old Town will be held on the last Thursday of each month (April - September) at 8:30am. Our first event of 2024 is being graciously hosted by Shared Office Space of Old Town and we hope to see you there!

Speaking of returning events -- next month Arts Night Out is back! Arts Night Out 2024 will look slightly different than years past as the Arts Council of Greater Lansing has divided the event by seasons on the dates shown below. Be sure to check out the Arts Council of Greater Lansing communication for more information!

With so many projects in the works and events coming up, there are tons of ways to get involved not only with the Old Town Commercial Association but with our many wonderful organizations and businesses in the neighborhood. Read on for more information and we hope to see you in and around Old Town soon!

THIS MONTH’S

STORIES

Passing of Ted Stewart

ted_metroretro

Dear Old Town community members,

With heavy hearts, we come together to remember and honor the life of Ted Stewart, a cherished member of our community and the owner of Metro Retro.

Ted wasn't just a store owner; he was a pillar of our community, a friend to many of those who walked through his store, and a beacon of welcoming and acceptance. He touched the lives of countless individuals, leaving a significant mark on the community that will not be forgotten.

As we mourn the loss of Ted, let us also celebrate the legacy he leaves behind. Let us remember the laughter he shared, the friendships he encouraged and nurtured, and the positive impact he had on each of us.

Our thoughts are with Ted's family and loved ones during this difficult time. May they find comfort in knowing that Ted's legacy will forever live on in Old Town, and in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.

With deepest sympathy,

Tia Barrera and the Old Town Commercial Association
