Summer Marketing & Communications Intern
Old Town Lansing, Michigan
Summer (May–August, flexible)
Hours: 15–20 hours per week
Compensation: $15/hour
Position Overview: The Old Town Commercial Association (OTCA) is seeking a motivated and creative Marketing & Communications Intern to support district-wide promotion, event marketing, and small business storytelling.
This role is ideal for a student or emerging professional interested in downtown development, placemaking, event marketing, and community engagement. The intern will play a hands-on role in promoting Old Town Lansing as a vibrant destination for residents and visitors.
Key Responsibilities
Marketing & Content Creation
Assist in the scheduling and creation of content for OTCA social media platforms
Write captions, event descriptions, and promotional materials
Assist in creating graphics using Canva or similar tools
Capture photo and video content of Old Town businesses and events
Support email newsletter creation and distribution
Event Promotion & Support
Assist in marketing OTCA and Old Town events
Create event promotion timelines and social campaigns
Support day-of event coverage (social media, photography, vendor support)
Help coordinate signage, posters, and promotional materials
Business Engagement & Storytelling
Highlight Old Town businesses through features and spotlights
Conduct short interviews or gather business stories for content
Assist in promoting small business initiatives and programs
Support communication with business owners when needed
Communications & Administrative Support
Help maintain marketing calendars and content schedules
Assist with website design and needed assets.
Support general OTCA communications and outreach efforts

Qualifications
Current student or recent graduate in Marketing, Communications, Public Relations, Graphic Design or related field
Strong writing and communication skills
Familiarity with social media platforms (Instagram, Facebook)
Basic graphic design skills (Canva preferred)
Interest in community development, events, or small business
Ability to work independently and collaboratively
Preferred (Not Required)
Photography or videography experience
Experience with event planning or promotion
Familiarity with downtown or Main Street organizations
